NK Osijek and Glasgow Rangers will play in Osijek on Thursday at 20:45.
After his players first walked onto the pitch at City Garden stadium in Osijek, the new coach of Glasgow Rangers and one of the best midfielders in history, Steven Gerrard, showed that he was already very familiar with the qualities of the Croatian club, reports Gol.hr on July 25, 2018.
“We’re here at Osijek’s home, they are an aggressive team, very good in the offensive area. They are particularly strong on the left, the left-back has a quality cross and is dangerous from the breaks. But regardless of the opponent, it is most important to me that the Rangers are good,” said Gerrard
The Scottish media wrote that Osijek coach Zoran Zekić was a big fan of his colleague Gerrard, especially while he was still leading Liverpool.
“I expressed respect for a man who was a world class midfielder, but I hope he is not as good of a coach as he was a player,” said Zekić. Zekić, however, has made sure everyone knows that Glasgow can be defeated.
The legendary England player could not avoid a question of Croatia’s victory over England in the semi-finals of the World Cup. Gerrard did not spare the compliment.
“I think you have the best midfielder in the world at the moment – Modrić, who I am a fan of. Also, there is one of my best friends in football – Dejan Lovren. I congratulated them on advancing to the final, great job Croatia. As for England, we’ll beat you the next time.”
This summer, Gerrard even brought a young Croat to the Rangers, paying about 2 million pounds to Slaven Belupo for the stopper Nikola Katić.
“I have no doubt, if he continues to progress and improve his game, he will surely be a representative of Croatia.”
Fans of Osijek are surely hoping that after tonight’s match, Gerrard will have yet another fatal memory of Croats.
