Croatia’s Nova TV Second Largest Commercial TV Station in Region

Total Croatia News

Last year, Croatian TV stations had revenues higher than 100 million euro.

According to an analysis of the revenues of twenty largest commercial television companies in the region, four Croatian TV stations included on the list had 102.7 million euro in revenues last year, reports novac.hr on August 13, 2018.

Media Daily, a website which covers media in South East Europe, has analyzed the revenues of the 20 largest commercial television companies in the region. The list includes eight TV stations from Serbia, four from Croatia, four from Bosnia and Herzegovina, three from Slovenia, and one from Macedonia.

The first position by revenues went to PRO PLUS from Slovenia, which broadcasts channels Pop TV and Kanal A, with revenues of 61.9 million euro, which is seven million more than in 2016. The revenue growth is attributed to cable providers which increased the price of subscription to consumers. Additionally, in early 2017, PRO PLUS stopped its free terrestrial broadcasts and became the largest pay-TV channel in South East Europe.

Croatia’s NOVA TV is the second largest TV company in the region, which is an improvement of one position compared to the last year. The largest commercial television station in Croatia recorded 52.5 million euro in revenues, an increase of 65,000 euro compared to the previous year.

The biggest surprise is the PINK International, which fell two places. In 2016, the Serbian TV station was at the top of the rankings, while this year it recorded a decline of revenues in the amount of 5.5 million euro.

The second largest commercial TV station in Croatia, RTL, is also losing steam, but with revenues in the amount of 40.7 million euro, it has managed to keep the fourth place on the list.

The biggest increase in revenues was recorded by Al-Jazeera Balkans, with an incredible jump of 240 percent. Specifically, in 2016, the TV channel had income in the amount of 5.8 million euro, which in 2017 jumped to 19.2 million euro, climbing from the tenth to the seventh position.

On the other hand, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s OBN experienced a substantial drop in the revenues, which caused it to fall from the 9th to the 18th position.
