After Many Years, Split Will be Able to Invest in Diocletian’s Cellars

Is a facelift in the future of Diocletian’s cellars? 

Split will finally be able to resolve the issue of ownership over the cellars of Diocletian’s Palace, thanks to positive news from the Parliament, where changes and amendments to the Law on the Protection and Conservation of Cultural Property were adopted on Friday, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on September 28, 2018. 

This national regulation was passed by the city government at the Government session held at the Split City Administration building on the eve of the Saint Domnius celebrations. 

Split Mayor Andro Krstulović-Opara said that the new circumstances open up the possibility of restoring the cellars, as well as their maintenance, management, and financing of European funds, which so far was not possible because of unresolved property issues.

“Now we are embarking on becoming owners of this part of the Palace,” said the Mayor.

If you recall five years ago, there was no appropriate solution to this problem.

“I do not know how this town will solve it. We have not had such a case so far. It is a very specific situation,” said the State Geodetic Administration back then.
