Luka Modrić to Become Honorary Citizen of Zadar?

After he was named the best player in Europe by UEFA, the best player in the world by FIFA, and is the current frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or, Luka Modrić may also get a top prize from his hometown.

At the session of the Zadar City Council on Thursday, a vote will be held on the proposals for awarding public recognition for 2018. It is well known that Jasna Ančić and Željko Uzelac will receive lifetime achievement awards, while Luka Modrić should be awarded as an honorary citizen, writes 057info.hr on November 11, 2018.

The proposal to award Luka Modrić the title of honorary citizen was sent by the Sports Community of the City of Zadar with the support of NK Zadar, the Sports Community of Zadar County, NK Arbanasi, ŽNK Donat and OK Zadar.

“With remarkable achievements in the field of sport, Luka Modrić has been recognized throughout the world as a person who spreads love among people, encourages solidarity and contributes greatly to the development of awareness for the advancement of the value of a democratic society.

Because of the great sports achievements and the promotion of the City of Zadar and the Republic of Croatia, we have proposed that Luka Modrić be an ‘Honorable Citizen of the City of Zadar’ because he has never forgotten his city of Zadar and his homeland of Croatia. And even when he was awarded the best player in the world, he did not forget Croatia and the Croatian language, and he even spoke in the Croatian language to address the whole world with the words of thanks:

‘I would like to say hello to my Croatia. What a wonderful summer we had. Thank you for your wonderful emotions. We enjoyed it. Thank you for your sincere support and I send you my love.’

That is Luka Modrić. The story of Luka Modrić is a story about Zadar and Croatia, a story that needs to be told to our children as we raise them to become adults,” reads the proposal.
