July is nearing its end, and the people of Sinj know that there is nothing better than sitting under the thick, old chestnuts at the Alkar Racecourse to enjoy the first trials!
From July 16 to August 2, the Alkars will prepare for the most important event in the town – the 303rd Sinj Alka.
Monday to Friday, from 18:00-20:00, visitors have the opportunity to be part of this unique preparation, carefully monitoring how the Alkars practice their precision, while the Alkar horses familiarize themselves with the sandy race path.
As August and the Alka celebration is nearly here, the homes in Sinj are already beginning to follow the rhythm of the horse’s gallops, which pulsates the streets of the Alka town, part of UNESCO, Croatia, and the world’s intangible heritage.
Everything begins on August 3rd at 17:30 with the 303rd Bara. On August 4th, the 303rd Čoja will also begin at 17:30, and the peak of the excitement is the 303rd Sinj Alka on August 5th at 16:30, where the Alkars fight for their place in the long and rich history of Sinj.
Entrance for the preparations, as well as at Bara and Čoja, is free.
