The people of Sinj and their dear guests and tourists will have the opportunity to enjoy the extraordinarily rich and full program of the longtime manifestation ‘Days of Alka and The Assumption’.
The town of Sinj, in cooperation with the Viteško Alkar Society, the Monastery of Our Lady of Sinj, the Sinj Tourist Board and numerous associations, has prepared a series of content and valuable events where everyone will find something to enjoy.
The cultural and entertainment program abounds in diversity: from the performances of klapa and traditional groups, classical music concerts, local bands, numerous theatrical performances, exhibitions and film projections. The magical environment of the Alkar town is the best stage – do not miss the premiere of the new initiative of the Sinj Alkar Theater, the play ‘Battle of Sinj 1715’, and the traditional concert of the Marijan spiritual song, Klapa Sinjska Gospa. And at the Sinj Village Fair, relax and shop local eco-products. Under the starry sky at Kamičak, the dance of ethno music, Dunja Knebl, will be performed with the compositions Kololira and Veja.
To get into the healthy spirit, during July and August, there will be many competitions and sports tournaments – football and futsal, basketball, bowling and bocce ball, handball and volleyball. We must not forget the parachute cup, the sport fishing competition, the marathon in honor of Sinj, the dog show and many other events.
The Alkar ceremony starts on August 3rd with the 303rd Bara. The following day, on Saturday, the Čara will take place, and on Sunday, August 5th, the central celebration for the 303rd Sinj Alka will begin. As the Day of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving and the Day of Croatian Defenders is celebrated on this day, Sinj will be exceptionally festive.
The celebration of The Assumption always brings together many believers. The devoted pilgrimage and holy mass are celebrated in the Church of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, in the Old Lady’s town, in the monastery courtyard. The feast, the prayer of the rosary and the procession are special moments for every believer who is devoted to the Mother of God.
