World Tourism Day is marked all over the world on September 27th.
World Tourism Day, according to the official website, is marked to “foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.”
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has a different theme each year to promote a better understanding of tourism trends and the importance of sustainable tourism. The year 2017 was proclaimed the International Year of Sustainable Tourism, and the World Tourism Day is marked as “Sustainable Tourism, a Tool for Development”.
The Sinj Tourist Board will mark World Tourism Day through the promotion of short art and promotional films entitled “Tradition in the Objective”. The promotion will take place in the attic of the Sikirica Gallery on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, starting at 19:00.
The program will begin with the screening of documentaries created within the project “Tradition in the Objective” by the director Rina Efendić, realized in cooperation with the Cultural Center of Arts and the Museum of the Cetina Region, with the support of the Ministry of Culture. The program will include free video documentary workshops directed by media artist and photographer Rino Efendić.
The workshops were held on weekends from May 26 to July 1 this year and were divided into two parts.
The theoretical part took place in the Sikirica Gallery. Through the lectures, participants were introduced to the history of the media with an emphasis on new media from the 60s to the present and by reviewing the works of the most significant international and domestic media artists.
Through the practical part, all of the participants, under expert guidance, created works on free and default topics. They recorded short videotapes about traditional crafts (clothesmaking and shoes, everyday items), using these visual anthropology methods.
These works are a valuable contribution to the tourist promotion of the city of Sinj and Cetina region and are a clever disposal of cultural and aesthetic values and natural resources, which certainly gives a positive boost to sustainable tourism.
In addition to the promotion of short films created through the project “Tradition in the Objective”, the Tourist Board of Sinj will further present promotional films produced in cooperation with the Museum of the Cetina Region, the Ministry of Culture, and Ivan Knezovic, Ivica Delaš and the Association Didi from Kamešnica. Their presentation aims to point out the need to preserve the rich intangible cultural heritage through the crafts and customs of the villages and to present them as important factors in maintaining the identity of the Cetina region. In the musical part of the evening, KUD VRILO will perform in Obrovac Sinjskog.
It is also important to note that, according to the data from eVisitor, in the area of Sinj and the municipalities of Dicmo, Hrvace and Otok, there is a 26.18% increase in the number of arrivals and overnights in the period from 1 January to 31 August. This is a 41% increase in arrivals compared to the same period last year. Forecasts for September and the post-season are also rising compared to September last year.
Of course, there is existing infrastructure, new accommodation capacities, the committed work of all employees in tourism and catering, and also many organized events that are essential for the recognition and promotion of the destination.
