The United Nations General Assembly resolution on December 22, 1992, decided that March 22nd marks World Water Day every year.
Water has a fundamental importance in maintaining the structure and functions of all living beings. Nevertheless, we are witnessing its irrational use and pollution every day. If the balance between demand and limited reserves is not reached, the world will be faced with a severe global shortage of water.
We should be delighted in our local frameworks because we still have unharmed access to clean and drinkable water. World Water Day is a good opportunity to develop the knowledge of the importance and need to preserve the Cetina River and its tributaries that represent the bloodstream of the Cetina Krajina. With this aim, the Tourist Board of the Sinj restored the source of Miletin five years ago, and last year, restored and labeled the source of Gorućica, to become an unavoidable holiday destination for all nature lovers.
To mark World Water Day, this morning, Pavle Vučković hosted a workshop to educate the participants on the importance of water, the numerous endemic species of the “Cetina” inhabitants, their protection as well as freshwater fish farming and sport fishing in the Cetina Krajina. The educational workshop was organized by the Sport Fishing Association Cetina in Sinj, and the Association for Rural Development supported by the Sinj Tourist Board. The lecturers and conductors of the workshop were Filip Ratković, Rino Žuro and Ante Poljak, who are also our representatives in sport fishing. At the very end of this lecture, there was a small ‘Knowledge Quiz’ for all participants.
In addition to the workshop, in cooperation with the students of Fr. Pavle Vučković and Čistoće d.o.o. Sinj, there will be an organized cleaning and arrangement of the Miletin and Gorućica sources this year. In case of poor weather conditions, the action will be postponed.
