On Monday afternoon, the town famous for the Alka begins their 7th Festival of Science in Sinj (FZS). The previous six editions of this festival, which was launched by physics students Mislav Cvitković and Mate Jagnjić, hosted the 50 most prominent Croatian scientists primarily in natural and social sciences.
The President of the Organizing Committee for the 7th annual FZS, Mislav Cvitković, points out that this year, the series continues with the leading names of scientists with world-wide benchmarks, occupying the tops of their fields, Slobodna Dalmacija reports.
“Among these are Igor Rudan, a regular member of the Royal Academy of the United Kingdom, the first Croat in the academy after Ruder Bošković and one of the most cited Croatian scientists in the world, computer biologist from the University of Vienna Bojan Žagrović – member of the Academy of Austria, Aleksandar Radjenovic – a physicist at the Federal Polytechnic Institute in Lousanne, Switzerland. The domestic participation of prominent scientists have been confirmed by Janoš Terzić, Antonio Šiber, Hrvoje Buljan, Ana Marušić, Matko GlunčićAnđelko Akrap, Tomislav Portada, Silvije Domazet, Tomislav Domazet Lošo and others. In particular, I would like to point out Neven Sesardić, originally from Sinj, is in the world of the most celebrated Croatian philosophers,” says Cvitković.
This year’s FZS is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, with the help of the town of Sinj, Split-Dalmatia County, “School books” and CARNet.
The opening afternoon of the festival will be held in the congress hall of Knights Court, beginning at 17.30h. Through the next five days of the festival, scientists will take over the role of teachers in secondary schools in Sinj, and from 18-20h in the Alka Halls, there will be public lectures in scientific areas of concern.
On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, after the public presentations, “Havana Club” will meet with citizens in the “science cafe”, talking to them and answering their questions.
On Saturday, the last day of FZS, there will be traditional scientific quiz where you can win cash prizes. There will also be a closing ceremony.
