July the 18th, 2023 – Organised by HVIDRA Petrinja under the auspices of the Ministry of Croatian Veterans, the Sinj Veterans Centre hosted an art colony from July the 7th to the 9th, 2023.

A city tour was organised on the first day after the welcome reception for all participants, which included visits to the Sinj Alka Museum, the shrine of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj, and the centre of the town. Additionally, they visited Glavice, Vukovici, and Brnaze in the Cetina Region, where some of the most famed Sinj Alkars are from. On the first day, after returning to the Sinj Veterans Centre, the participants socialised, agreed on their further activities, and began creating art works.

Day two

On the second day of the art colony, the hosts organised a trip to Dabar on the property of the “Patriot” Defender’s Association, where participants could ride horses, play paintball, and go rafting and sightseeing at Lake Peruca. For those who were interested, sightseeing and swimming were organised in Split, about thirty kilometres away. Afterwards, the participants created art works, socialised, and learned more about the activities at the Sinj Veterans Centre, where wounded Ukrainian veterans are currently recovering, along with Croatian veterans and their families.

Socialising and a night out were organised in the evening on the terrace of the cafe bar “Pjaca,” where the staff and citizens of Sinj proved their warm hospitality and helpfulness. They socialised and created art works late into the night due to the pleasant atmosphere on offer there.

Art, holy mass and more

As the participants’ art works were completed on Sunday, they attended the Holy Mass at the shrine of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj and visited the “Alkar” hotel. The Sinj branch’s director, Mr. Igor Vidalina, was impressed by their efficiency, and he expressed his desire to continue this art colony after thanking those present for their participation. The participants visited Vrlika’s Cetina River source and Udbina’s Croatian Martyrs’ Church on the way back.

42 works of art were created by 12 participants

The participants then thanked their hospitable hosts from the Sinj Veterans Centre, as well as the organisers (HVIDRA Petrinja). They presented 42 works of art created by 12 participants of the art colony: Edit Posavec, Liljana Nemer, Bozica Pintar, Mladen Rajn and members of the “Peski-Art Durdevac” Association Alojz Horvat, Mirko Horvat, Zvonko Koscak, Mirko Markesic, Franjo Mihocka, Ivan Rodak, Zdravko Sabaric and Pero Topljak.
