The Most Grueling Race in Croatia Begins this Friday: TransDinara MTB

TransDinara is an international 3 day mountain-cycling race (stage race, XCP), which aims to bring together professionals and recreational cyclists from Croatia and the wider region to ride through arguably the harshest Croatian territory (of 226 km). TransDinara is the most challenging stage MTB race in Croatia and amongst the most challenging in the region, where competitors deal with long distances and differences in height during this 3 day competition. The competition will take place from September 2-4.

The details of each of the 3 stages in the competition have been announced.

 

Stage one begins on Friday, September 2 and is a warm up on Kamešnica mountain. The start of the race is in the city center of Trilj, with the finish at Vrdovo camp. The distance covered is 82 kilometers with an altitude difference of 2600 meters. The technical difficulty and stamina rated for this stage are 4 out of 5.

 

Stage two of the race is on Saturday, September 3 and is considered the crown jewel of this marathon. Stage two is part one of the trek through Dinara mountain. This most difficult stage begins at Vrdovo camp and finishes in the city center of Vrlika. The distance covered is 74 kilometers with an altitude difference of 2650 meters. 88% of the surface is off road, and the technical difficulty and stamina for this stage is 5/5.

 

The final stage of the competition, stage three, takes place on Sunday, September 4. This stage is part two of the Dinara mountain trek, with trails through lakes, rivers, and waterfalls. The start of stage three begins in the center of Vrlika and ends in the fortress at Knin. 50 kilometers in distance is covered in this stage with an altitude difference of 900 meters. Technical difficulty and stamina for this stage are 3 out of 5.
