Want to see a great play or two? Marin Držić Theatre has you covered
If you’re craving a good cultural event, we suggest heading to the Marin Držić Theatre in Dubrovnik. The theatre is staging two great pieces: ‘Exercises in Style’ visiting from the Planet Art Theatre in Zagreb, and a crime-comedy ‘The Swedish Match’.
Directed by Tomislav Radić and performed by theatre icons Pero Kvrgić and Lela Margitić, ‘Exercises in Style’ (Stilske vježbe) is a legendary Croatian play that’s been on the repertoire for the incredible span of 49 years, entering the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-running play performed by the same ensemble. The sole act of seeing the play can be considered taking part in a piece of history – everyone should use the opportunity and grab some tickets before the two remarkable actors decide to retire.
‘The Swedish Match’ (Švedska šibica) is a play written by A. P. Checkhov and directed by the Russian Denis Azarov as part of a collaboration between the Days of Russian Culture manifestation and Dubrovnik Art Forum in 2016. It’s an outstanding crime comedy depicting everyday life in an average neighbourhood in a subtle and humorous way, surprising the audience with unexpected plot twists.
‘Exercises in Style’ are on the repertoire on 24 and 25 May, while ‘The Swedish Match’ can be seen on 26 and 27 May at 8 PM. You can book your tickets by sending an email to [email protected]. Enjoy!
