The island of Lokrum in Dubrovnik has seen great revenue growth and has some excellent plans ahead…
As DuList reported on the 17th of May, 2017, the Lokrum Reserve has managed to achieve excellent sales results in the first few months of 2017, having sold 16,900 return cards as of the 15th of May this year! These numbers equal a massive increase of 70.5% compared to the same period of 2016.
The price of a basic return ticket from Dubrovnik’s Old Port (stara luka) to the island has risen from 100kn to 120kn, resulting in a turnover increase of 84%. Owing to this great news and promising prospects, Lokrum has decided to expand its services, enabling sailing of the ”Dubrovnik Vaporetto” to connect with the uninhabited island from Mokosica, Gruz, Srebreno and Cavtat. In addition, the renovation of the ancient Benedictine monastery has been agreed upon, and eventually all such facilities located on the island will undergo such necessary care.
Outside of Lokrum itself, it has been decided that 2017’s surplus will continue to go into investment in areas such as the management and care of the island/islet of Daksa, turning it into a public space with a memorial centre for those who were lawlessly murdered on the island at the hands of the Yugoslav Partisans in 1945 – the memorial will be accessible to visitors.
It is also reported that there is significant interest in taking over the possession of the Zarkovica area, managing the land and attempting to solve the long-running issue of the proper construction of a shelter for the abandoned animals that live there, currently cared for by Sandra Sambrailo and her team of animal loving volunteers.
