A new initiative with Lokrum’s best interests at heart is founded!
As DuList reports on the 12th of August, 2017, after the recent, very public controversy surrounding concessions, the need for protection of the coast and islands has been rightly and significantly raised, in a similar fashion to the Island Movement Initiative (Pokret Otoka). The importance of the island of Lokrum as a special reserve is under the protection of UNESCO, emphasised are its historic buildings, horticultural heritage, botanical garden and more.
The idea is to involve as many experts as possible in the work of the Society, who would be able to take a knowledgeable stand on Lokrum’s key themes, such as properly maintaining and protecting the flora and fauna, preserving the coastline, arranging anchorage and anchoring, fire protection, oceanographic examinations underwater, the restoration of historic buildings and horticultural heritage, all in cooperation with DPDS (Društvo Prijatelja Dubrovačke Starine/Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities).
The public will be informed in good time on the time and place of the founding assembly.
