The village of Zrnovo is definitely the place to be on Korcula this weekend, as the 1st Korcula Beer Festival has been an unqualified success and will surely become a regular on the island tourism calendar. Some of Croatia’s finest craft beers, excellent (and very affordable) local dishes and great live music – what more does one need for a great night out to relax at the end of another busy season?
Having lived on Hvar for many years, I have watched how certain festivals have been introduced, grown quietly and then become an essential part of the tourism calendar. Perhaps the best example of that is the inland village of Dol, where the edible dormouse is a culinary speciality. The Puhijada edible dormouse festival is now its 10th year I think, and the final night attracts up to 5,000 people, making it the biggest festival on Hvar. From a zero start.
I wouldn’t expect the Korcula Beer Festival to get that popular, but a very solid start has been made, one which will be built on for next year. For now, though, head over to Pinjac Pub tonight from 17:00, for the final night of this year’s festival. It will be quite a party.
