Guarding the town of Korčula since the 15th century, and among the more newly built, the northern tower was designed by local master Marko Andrijić. It is best known by the name Zakerjan, although towers often changed names through history depending on who ruled the town. The side of Zakerjan tower facing the Pelješac peninsula holds a Venitian coat of arms, as it was built when Venice ruled the town. It’s circular shape is a more modern one, adapted to the appearance of more powerful cannons, compared to older square-shaped towers.
