If you love the traditional music of Dalmatia, you’ll be in luck when you come to Korčula, as you can hear it everywhere you turn.
If you somehow manage to get tired of it, Korčula will offer you a perfect change of pace over the next several days, with three performances by a renowned Mexican-American mariachi ensemble Mariachi Mixteco.
Mariachi Mixteco is a band from sunny California, where they’ve been active since 1998, taking their love of Mexican culture to audiences in the U.S. and in Mexico, and now they’ve decided to come to Europe. The band is made up of young adults from the ages of 15 to 25 (currently) who are dedicated to continuing and sharing Mexico’s cultural traditions.
On Korčula, they will perform on three separate occasions. First, on Friday night, August 3rd, they will certainly help an amazing party at Port9 resort, where their performance is to start at 21:00.
Then, on Sunday, August 5th, also at 21:00, they will perform in Pupnat, which will likely also be an amazing event in the completely different atmosphere of a small Dalmatian village.
On Wednesday, August 8th, they’ll be back in the Korčula town, and will perform in the centre, at the Memorial Square, again at 21:00 Entrance to all of their performances is free.
On Friday night, but at 22:00, another music event will start on Korčula – Korkyra Jazz Fest. This year their big guest star will be Croatian singer Vesna Pisarović, who became famous when she sang easy pop ballads in the early 00’s, after which she quit the music scene completely, moved abroad, and started her jazz career. Her jazz trio will perform on the St. Justine Square, and the entrance is also free.
On Saturday night, the second evening of the Korkyra Jazz Fest will be held in Servantes Bar, where Marin Jerkunica Quartet (Marin Jerkunica is the main organiser of the festival) will perform, also starting at 22:00.
