Strossmayer Park, known to locals as Dardin, is one of the many perks of Split.
On a sunny and warm mid-September day, there is nothing better to do in Split than enjoy one of the many perks the city offers, such as Strossmayer Park.
Situated in the north of Diocletian’s Palace at the entrance to the Golden Gate, Strossmayer Park has been the central city garden of Split since 1859. While the famous Gregory of Nin statue is a monument many tourists visit to rub the toe of good luck, the area offers another gem many visitors overlook – the flea market.
Full of vintage treasures from yesteryear including coins, badges, teacups, books, trinkets, and records, the rich culture of Split seeps through the many finds the market offers. If you feel like a bargain or a souvenir resembling a jewel of Split’s past, this is the place to visit.
The market also offers homemade Croatian souvenirs, art, lavender goods, and of course, the perfect photo opportunity.
On a day like today when the busy tourist season seems to be dwindling away, a trip to Strossmayer was the perfect afternoon getaway.
Here’s a look at what you can find.
And then the crowds came in…
