Could it be?
Earlier this week, those in Split looking for their chance in the spotlight had an opportunity to attend a Netflix casting call at Poljud. While the only requirement was that those interested needed to be between the ages of 18-35, it was safe to assume that the casting call was a directly involved with the new Netflix comedy filming in Pag this month, “Ibiza”, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on September 7, 2017.
Since the filming of Game of Thrones, the striking locations across Croatia have sparked the interest of many film directions. With new projects and casting calls popping up along the coast, locals are quick to grab every opportunity – and the majority of foreign casting calls are hardly missed. You can imagine, then, that when Netflix is tied to the project, it’s going to be good.
Many fans of the “Netflix & Chill” generation did come out to Poljud on Wednesday in search of their 15 seconds of fame.
“We are mostly on holiday, students or unemployed, so why not try it? Maybe someone will recognize our potential, and we will skip the painstaking admission of entering an acting academy and go straight to Hollywood,” said a few kids in their 20s at the call.
The conditions for the extras, they claimed, are not so bad. While accommodation and food are paid, extras have their days free and only film over three nights. All this requires is for the extra to show they can have a good time, and in a single night, they can earn 350 HRK. It should be noted, however, that the extras must have enough energy to withstand “partying” over the duration of an evening. We imagine that since only those between 18 and 35 could apply, it shouldn’t be a problem.
As far as the film itself is concerned, although there is no “official” confirmation, it is assumed that the castings were called for romantic comedy “Ibiza”, the new Netflix film that has recently taken over the region. After shooting in Serbia, the movie’s cinematographer, Daniel Moder, and wife, actress Julia Robert visited Belgrade. There were even speculations the couple visited Split before heading to Pag to scout film locations.
While Belgrade will serve as Barcelona in the movie, Pag, and perhaps Split will play Ibiza.
Moder studied and stayed at Zrće Beach in June where he frequented Aquarius club with a camera in hopes that the club’s atmosphere would fit the part for the film. As we found out, Moder was pleased, and the movie crew will move to Pag to begin shooting next week. If you haven’t experienced what Zrće Beach is like, this video should help.

Whether or not the film will come to Split has not been completely confirmed, but seriously loud rumors have been heard. As part of those rumors, it has been speculated that the clubs at Bačvice, Poljud and even Central itself will be excellent locations for the film. Allegedly, filming in Split should begin on September 13th and last until October.

This would ultimately mean that our Split will be visited by the beautiful American actresses Gillian Jacobs and Vanessa Bayer, as well as comedian Phoebe Robinson. Richard Madden, famous for his role as Robb Stark from “Games of Thrones”, has also been confirmed to play the world-renowned DJ in the film.
The movie, which follows a business trip to Spain that turns into an unforgettable nighttime adventure, is directed Alex Richanbach. The production, in collaboration with Good Universe, is signed by Gary Sanchez Productions whose owners are celebrated American comedian Will Ferrell, director Adam McKay and producer Kevin J. Messick. Gary Sanchez and Good Universe recently collaborated in the Warner Bros. movie “The House” where Ferrell starred.
Could Split serve as the European party paradise of Ibiza? Stay tuned!
