Are you coming to Croatia this summer but not sure where you can get the best bang for your buck in accommodation? Here’s our breakdown of three of Croatia’s most popular cities: Split, Zagreb and Dubrovnik.
We know that many of you have just about planned your summer holidays, and if you’ve already booked your accommodation for the trip – props to you. If you haven’t, while there is some reason to worry, we’re here to break down the accommodation offered in three of Croatia’s most famous cities in case you find yourself in a pinch and need a quick overnight fix.
While it’s nearly impossible to break down the accommodation in each city throughout the summer, as what you’ll find is all subject to availability, we thought we’d start with the first weekend in June, and, precisely, June 1st to June 3rd, 2018. Split
If you’re looking for a two-night stay in Split this weekend, you can find 419 properties on offer – and that’s just narrowed down to the city center! In this offer, guests can find 16 hotels which range in price from $282 for two nights to $1,278 for two nights (Split’s 5-star Hotel Park being the most expensive). The apartment and hostel offer in Split’s center for this weekend will grace you with over 300 properties, ranging from $69 for two nights to $925 for two nights! Almost all of Split’s apartments boast free WiFi while 12 of Split’s hotels include free breakfast in their offer.

Now, if you choose to go a bit outside of Split’s historic center, you’ll notice that the offer expands tremendously. For starters, there are 24 hotels available to book for this weekend, and 873 apartments and hostels! Outside of the center, apartments and hostels can cost you as little as $69 for two nights, while hotels begin as low as $194 for two nights.
And if you wanted to stay by the Split airport? You can find over 2,000 available properties.
With the summer coming (and the heat of the new season already attracting droves of anxious tourists), you’ll notice Split’s accommodation offer fill up fast – especially during weekends such as Ultra Europe music festival which takes place from July 6th to 8th in Split.
Zagreb
The Croatian capital, which isn’t nearly as busy with tourists in the summer as the Dalmatian capital, is actually a pleasant escape from the crowds and not the worst place to beat the heat (although sky-rocketing temperatures do exist there, trust us). If you were to book a hotel in Zagreb’s center this weekend, over 30 options are on offer, ranging from around $150 for two nights to $5,782 (yes, the Esplanade is not the place to book if you’re on a budget). For apartments in the city center, Zagreb offers 218 properties, starting as low as $81 for two nights. Overall, it’s not too shabby.

If you’re willing to branch out of Zagreb’s center, the offer, as expected, becomes much more extensive. While the hotel offer shows limited availability, Zagreb’s apartments and hostels show over 500 properties that are available to book. These begin as low as $80 for two nights, as well.
And if you wanted the convenience of staying near Zagreb’s airport, there are 640 options at your disposal.
Dubrovnik
The ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ has seen waves of tourists already since spring. No stranger to mass tourism, Dubrovnik’s Old Town has just over 20 apartments and hotels on offer for this weekend, ranging from $163 for two nights to $830! If you’re willing to branch outside of the lovely (but crowded) Old Town, you’ll see your horizons grow a bit wider with over 400 properties to choose from of all types. For example of how to do Dubrovnik on the cheap, a hostel less than 3 kilometers from the city center can be booked for $60 for two nights.

Staying by Dubrovnik airport is always an option as well, though you would be staying some 20 kilometers from the Old Town itself and in the town of Čilipi. Some 800 properties are available along the 20-kilometer coastal strip to Dubrovnik from the airport, and if you are looking to beat the crowds, this bit of seaside isolation is not the worst idea for your Dubrovnik vacation.
