The Days of Diocletian will open on May 18th at Peristyle, and this year will continue through the end of summer. The cultural event has become one of the most recognizable and leading motifs for the arrival of tourists in Split, reports Dalmatinski Portal on May 17, 2018.

“To provide an antique experience to all foreigners and locals, not only during the three days of the event, but also throughout the summer, this year, Days of Diocletian last from May 18 to September 21,” said the Split Tourist Board, who announced that as part of this event, the ‘Changing of the Guard’ can be expected, a project under the leadership of HNK Split, which proved to be one of the main attractions for tourists.

As with every year, every day precisely at 12:00 in the Peristyle Emperor Square, everyone will gather to greet the Roman Emperor and Empress. Days of Diocletian will also have the unique “Nights of Diocletian”, as well as the “Roman Life” project that will once again create themed evenings once a month, Roman processions, gladiator fights, and beautiful dance performances.

“Diocletian’s legion will also revive the ancient past through the project ‘Living Museum’ at Cornaro, returning us to the everyday life of the ancient Romans in Split. Split is the city of music, so the Days of Diocletian event will be enhanced by music concerts organized in cooperation with the Music Youth. The music of the forgotten Mediterranean is brought to us by Spanish artists Emilio Villalba & Sara Marina, and a special musical treat is also the concert ‘A PIACERE’ – old and ne’ viola de gamba by Fahmi Alqhai, a great young Spanish gambist performing the centuries-old instrument and music of that time,” announced the Split Tourist Board.

Days of Diocletian will begin on May 18th with the ‘Changing of the Guard’ and a Children’s Program, and at 20:30 at Peristyle, the Emperor and Empress will arrive.

“At 12:00 on Peristyle, pupils of OŠ Pojišan will tell the story of the birth of our town and connect the past and the present of Split with the play ‘Children’s tourist postcard.’ At 20:30, under the leadership of HNK Split, Emperor Diocletian will come to Peristyle where the one-hour program ‘Return of the Emperor to the Palace’ will be held. As part of the program, you will see the ‘Changing of the Guard’, the address of Emperor Diocletian, the establishment of the ‘Roman Legion’, the show ‘No Threat to Romans”, fire dancers and many other surprises,” concluded the Split Tourist Board.
