Finally, The Study of Gastronomy Comes to Aspira University

Daniela Rogulj

It’s no surprise that Croatia is successfully building its position as one of the fastest growing Mediterranean gourmet destinations, with growth and development based on Croatia’s rich gastronomic and oenological tradition. That being said, Aspira University College of Management and Design in Split has now introduced the Study of Gastronomy.

For gastro-oenology to develop, it is necessary to have a quality staff that are trained in creating top-quality products, keeping pace with modern developments. Addressing the problem and the opportunity, College Aspira in Split has launched a new module, “gastronomy”, within their undergraduate program of International Management in Hospitality and Tourism.

Students will study in context to understand the importance of gastronomy and oenology in creating a complete tourist experience – making themselves familiar with the techniques and history of cooking different world cuisines, working on the creation of cutting-edge culinary products, introducing modern culinary trends and learning to apply them.

Students will, through modern teaching, work actively, practice and learn from many prominent chefs. They will be able to participate in seminars and workshops, and learned knowledge will be applied in modern kitchens – the field work will acquire a special experience of meeting the Croatian and the world’s food and wine offer.

Guest speakers that will participate will be among the world’s experts in the field of gastronomy, such as the founder and editor of the American magazine “Gastronomica” Darren Goldstein amongst many others.

This Gastronomy study was created in collaboration with renowned experts with extensive international experience in the field of tourism and the economy in general. The education of future leaders in the development of Croatian gastronomy and oenology will monitor current global developments and trends in this area.

During classes, workshops, seminars, projects and exercises, students will gain valuable practical knowledge of prominent local and foreign experts in the field of gastronomy, enology, tourism and the economy in general – further enriching the skills that will be implemented in the most demanding of situations from which will be in the course of their professional duties.

Finally offered in Croatia, we think this new program at Aspira could really help to broaden and enrich the job offer throughout the country.
