World Music Day, also known as Fête de la Musique, is celebrated annually on June 21.
For the eighth consecutive year, Split will mark World Music Day, which is traditionally held on June 21. On Thursday, melophiles around Split will be able to hear the sounds of music at seven city locations through free concerts of different genres – from classics to klapa songs, chansons and rock, and this year, for the first time, electronic music, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on June 21, 2018.
The music events are organized by the Croatian Music Association of Split and Prokultura – Split, in cooperation with the French Institute and the Museums of Ivan Meštrović. At the Ivan Meštrović Gallery tonight at 18:30, in the framework of the cycle “Art without Borders”, the young French star of modern chansons, Pomme, and singer Ana Opačak, the leader of the Friends of Chanson Club, will perform.
The Golden Gate (Zlatan Vrata) will open at 18:00 for all visitors wishing to enjoy the sounds of the Sanctus Domnio Mandolin Orchestra and the female vocal composition “Rusula”, while the City Music Orchestra from Livno and the local harmonic orchestra HKUD “Dinara” will play on Pjaca.
The corner of Marmontova Street and the Riva will be a rock location where, at 19:00, citizens and tourists will be entertained by five compositions – Afterfire, Poludi, Cima band, Rock band cover and Pink Panther. At the Fruit Square (Voćni Trg), the world’s evergreens will be performed by Trio Spin, Dua Regine, Dua Acoustic, Project Band and the Flores acoustic group, while Sandra & Tino will transform Peristyle into a romantic paradise.
Ususret Ultra has prepared a special DJ program with the best in the Split scene at the top of Marmontova, where the audience will warm up with Wadrez, Josip Wolf, Joksimus, Marul, and LooksLux.
“Our wish is to present a colorful range of talented people, and of the young people who do not deal with music exclusively from the commercial stimuli. In this way, HGU Split seeks to expand the music scene and opens the way to natural selection between high-quality music and music trash,” says Ivana Gutović Čičo, secretary of the Split HGU.
The music program, which will begin at 18:30, will last until midnight, though the music will come to a halt between 20:00 to 22:00 so that fans can watch Croatia play Argentina in the World Cup in Russia.
