Happy Birthday to the Father of Croatian Literature – Here’s How to Celebrate

Daniela Rogulj

The famous Father of Croatian Literature, Marko Marulić, was born on August 18, 1450 in what was Split, in the Republic of Venice. To honor Marulić and to celebrate his birthday all of these years later, Marcvs Marvlvs Spalatensis (Library Bar) will be hosting an intimate birthday party.

Located in the heart Diocletian’s palace, it is thought to be that Marko Marulić was born in this very structure that is now home to Split’s first library bar, Marcvs Marvlvs Spalatensis. The building retains many of its 15th century features, and is centrally located on Papalićeva street.

To celebrate the birthday of the Father of Croatian Literature, many will gather at Marulić’s former home (and current library bar) to recite poetry. The poetry could be his, about him, or your very own, with every language welcome.

For those who would like to participate, please send the following information to [email protected] with your name, city, and if you are a writer, your last three titles of published books. The event will be held from 19h-21h.

Happy Birthday Marko Marulić!
