The less busy offseason is the perfect time visit Croatia’s normally crowded national parks!

With the summer season gone, we can now enjoy the much quieter and calmer offseason months. While this has many advantages, one of our favorites is that Croatia’s most frequented destinations will boast half the amount of people – especially good news for those of you wanting to visit the country’s many national parks.

Two of the most popular national parks in Croatia are Plitvice and Krka, both of which welcome millions of tourists during the high-intensity summer months.

While many of you might think that visiting these parks in the summer season is the only way to experience them, the offseason not only brings significantly smaller crowds, but you’ll be able to witness the many perks of the changing seasons such as thriving waterfalls and nature undressing to autumnal colors.

Plitvice Lakes National Park, for example, is known to be even more picturesque during the offseason. The park, which expands over 296.85 square kilometers, is famous for its cascading lakes – and there are 16 of them! Knowing that the autumn and winter seasons in Croatia welcome more rain, the fully-flowing waterfalls are the perfect spotlight to a backdrop of bursting orange and red flora – and another perk? Ticket prices are considerably lower in the offseason – and only 55 HRK for adults!

National Park Krka is another attraction not to be missed in the postseason. While flocks of tourists run to Skradinski Buk for the perfect photo opp, it’s not nearly as fun getting there after tiring behind kilometer-long crowds on the wooden pathways of the park during the peak season. Sure, you may not be able to swim at Skradinski Buk like you can in July, but did you know that the park has so much more to offer? From monasteries to caves and other equally beautiful waterfalls, tickets for Krka in the offseason are even cheaper than at Plitvice – and from high prices of 110-180 HRK in the summer months, guests can enjoy the park for only 30 HRK in the quiet months.
