The Oldest Running Film Festival in Croatia Returns to Split Next Month

Daniela Rogulj

The International Festival of New Film / Split Film Festival, the oldest international film and media manifestation in the Republic of Croatia, will be held in Split from September 10-18.

Having found its home in Split in 1996, the 21st edition of the International Festival of New Film (aka Split Film Festival) promotes new, creative, personal, experimental, radical and subversive works, styles and genres, commonly produced outside of the commercialized mainstream – with an excellent standard of achievement.

The festival program is comprised of a selection of titles from recent world film production, films that have been screened and awarded on well-known levels, and lesser known festivals around the world. While Croatian films are highly promoted and premiered, a strong regard is also given to international features and short films, making the core of the program. Two international juries bestow the Grand Prix upon the best features and shorts from the competitive sections.

In order to bridge the gap between national and local cinemas and their dialogue with the international film scene, the festival has introduced a number or retrospectives, workshops, lectures, and presentations of leading experts from the film and art scene.

Taking place across 3 venues in Split, we are excited to see the return of Split Film Festival this year. You can find more information on their website here.
