Because we would never want to be phased with a task as hard as rating the best burgers, nor would we want to take on that challenge considering the current burger revolution in Croatia –  so instead we give to you the best institutions to burger up in Split.

Torito Food Bar: What opened this summer as a tapas and cocktails bar has one stellar burger. Made with 100% Croatian beef on homemade buns, this burger comes with caramelized onions, burger toppings, cheese, and a tangy red sauce that is to die for. It’s messy as ever and you should definitely ask to get it cut in half, but we’re pretty sure you’ll want to be licking the taste off your fingers for as long as you can. The burger includes a side of homemade potatoes, with the total costing you only 55kn!

Mama Burger Bar: A classic burger bar drawing their influence from the West, Mama has an extensive menu, offering up everything from a classic burger, a hot mama burger (spicy), bbq burger, fancy mama burger (made with lamb and feta), and a chicken burger. The classic burger is topped with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions, and a Mama made sauce, and is pretty exemplary of a classic American burger. Mama Burger Bar opened earlier this year.

Toto’s Burger Bar: Another new burger bar that popped up in Split this summer, Toto’s makes their hamburgers exclusively with Croatian beef, and each one comes in weighing 150g. They offer chicken burgers, brie burgers, a Toto burger (which comes topped with an egg and parmesan), and a prawn and octopus burger (for you pescatarians out there).

Papa’s American Bar: Perhaps the first true burger bar in Split, Papa’s offers up a classic hamburger and cheeseburger, BBQ burger, and the Papa’s burger which packs on the fried bacon. A specialty at Papa’s is the MFB (Mom’s Favorite Burger) which comes with 100% beef, lettuce, tomato, fresh cucumber, cow cottage cheese, and chipotle sauce.

Chops Grill: A tried and true steakhouse is sure to have a tried and true burger, and this one is surely just that. Served only for lunch until 18h, Chops offers up a Kettyle Style Black Angus Burger with aged angus beef, lettuce, tomatoes, crispy onions, cheddar cheese and crispy bacon. Served with fries, this meal is a deal for 90kn. Look out for their new chicken burger too!

Brasserie on 7: The riva’s favorite French inspired brasserie has a classy burger, weighing in at 200g of beef, topped with Swiss cheese, pancetta, champignons, and a homemade BBQ sauce. Also served with fries, this fancy fare will cost you 95kn.

Bokeria Kitchen and Food: A restaurant with more reviews than any other restaurant in Split (or so it seems) there was not a single negative comment about the Bokeria gourmet burger. Boasting truffle oil, prosciutto, sharp cheese and local produce, this burger is everything gourmet yet a tad bit more expensive…but we think so worth it.

Fabrique Pub: Also new in Split this year, Fabrique is a take on classic pub fare. As any pub would, the Fabrique Pub burger comes with cheddar cheese, fried bacon, caramelized onion, green salad, tomato, and bbq sauce. In the summer they also serve a tuna burger.
