The Split City Puppet Theatre will open its new season with five premiere performances. The implementation of ‘Three Little Pigs’, the first of the premieres this season, will be held in Split on September 24.
For the 2016/2017 season, the Split City Puppet Theatre will have five premiere performances, all organized by the Croatian drama festival for children “Mali Marulić”.
This season begins with the show ‘Ukradeno sunce’ (Stolen Sun) in Zagreb as part of the program for the 49th International Festival of PIF (International Puppet Theatre Festival). This show will take place on September 16 at 11h.
The first season’s premiere is a performance of ‘Three Little Pigs’ in collaboration with the Theatre Poco Loco in Zagreb. Theatre Poco Loco is known for the project ‘I’ll tell you a story’ in which they set a series of titles in specific and more recognizable forms to expose fairy tales, live music, and animation on the overhead projector with participation from children in the audience. ‘Three Little Pigs’ is scheduled to premiere at GKL Split on Saturday, September 24.
After the premiere of ‘Three Little Pigs’, the second premiere is by authors Ksenije Zec and Saše Božića ‘U zvijezde’ (The Stars), which will be carried out at GKL Split on October 7. The authors are of the award-winning play “Glazbatorij ‘, and have this season returned to GKL Split, inviting the youngest to travel the galaxy.
For children 12 and older, in co-production with the theater PlayDrama, GKL Split prepares the performance “My Name is Anne Frank ‘, taken from ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’. This performance is adapted and directed by Elvis Bosniak. The show stars children between the ages of 12 to 16 and students that study drama at theater Playdrama, and premieres at GKL Split on November 12.
The first part of the season and calendar year ends with yet another premiere and the continuation of the cult holiday performances of Split puppeteers, ‘Bijele kočije’ (White Carriage). According to the motifs of the original performance by Davor Mladina, a continuation of this white fairy tale will be directed by GKL actress Sanja Vidan, with dramaturgical assistance by Branko Ruzic. This performance premieres at GKL Split on December 3.
This season’s premiere program ends in the spring of 2017 with a premiere by Olje Savicevic Ivancevic titled ‘Som na cilome svitu’ – winning first prize in the competition “Mali Marulić” for best play. The play is directed by Renata Carola Gatica.
To ensure the availability of theaters for all children, this season will see performances in small towns throughout Split-Dalmatia, as well as on the islands.
Ticket prices for performances at GKL have remained the same for 15 years – 25 kn for free sale and 20 kn for organized visits. Prices for family subscription is symbolic at only 140 kn (for seven titles). Registration runs from September 1 to October 1.
