Tourists and Citizens Discover a Different Kind of Tourist Attraction in Split

Daniela Rogulj

In just one year, this Split shipyard has been visited by more than 1500 people.

Last year’s slogan for tourism in the Dalmatian capital preached ‘Split is a hit, come to Split’. This slogan can now also be applied to Brodosplit, the largest shipyard in Croatia. In just one year, more than 1500 people visited the Split shipyard on organized excursions, writes Dalmacija News on May 17, 2017.

While many primary schools, secondary schools and universities in Split visit this “new” tourist attraction, it has also drawn in visitors from educational institutions in Benkovac, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Brač, Korčula, Jastrebarsko and Zagreb.

Both foreign and domestic travel agencies include a visit to Brodosplit in their offer, and the number of visitors year after year is constantly increasing. The greatest interest has been expressed by guests from Slovenia, but there are also arrivals from Austria, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Most recently, there have even been individual visits from citizens of the United States, Brazil, Israel and Poland.

Brodosplit spans over half a million square meters, and unlike other shipyards in Europe, at Brodosplit you can experience and become familiar with the complexities of the process of construction of the ships – from distribution and cutting steel to the assembly on the slipway.

During the two-hour tour, visitors are first introduced to the different models of the ships, with more than 70 surviving in the ‘Museum of the shipyard’. From there, visitors put on protective helmets and are taken on a walk through the production areas to see the new ships being built. To the delight of many visitors, they are able to see projects that include the construction of the steel dams made to prevent the influence of the tides on the city of Venice, and the largest sailing ship in the world whose launch is scheduled for June 10th this year.

Let’s see just how popular this tour gets this summer! More information here
