Where Are You Buying Music in Split?

Daniela Rogulj

Music in Split: everyone listens to it, we know how much you love to sing, and we are definitely big on dancing. But how are we at buying music and supporting domestic and foreign artists? Luckily, we have a few great music shops in the center of Split where you can find yourselves in a “music safe haven”, and if you feel like digging, our markets are perfect for you. Here are some of the institutions in Split where you can buy records and CD’s, and everything in between.

Croatia Records Music Shop: Located super central at Narodni Trg 11, Croatia Records (formerly known as Jugoton) is a domestic record shop offering up everything from DVD’s to CD’s and records – essentially everything that was ever released on the Croatia Records label. Big on re-releases and compilations, Croatia Records has a comprehensive audio and video library, with an even bigger number of independent individuals, labels, and sub-labels.

Dancing Bear: Located at Dioklecijanova 6 in the center of Split, Dancing Bear CD shop is a full fledged record shop. Carrying everything from CD boxed sets in all genres to vinyl reissues, Dancing Bear has an extensive selection and offers more product than Croatia records, including many foreign titles. You can also find concert tickets for sale here.

Flea Markets: Whether it be at Đardin or at the “Splitski Sajam” (Split Flea Market), flea markets are typically golden in Split for finding some gems and pearls in the music world. Although easy to find rare records and ones only issued in Croatia, you do have to make sure what you’re buying is in good condition. Another thing you’ll oftentimes find at the markets are vintage music equipment such as turntables or old transistor radios. Definitely great for those music collectors out there!
