A series of works by Nikolina Ivezić is on display in Klovićevi dvori gallery

“All you need is luck” states the title of the exhibition that is opening tonight at Klovićevi dvori.

One of the most distinguished Croatian artists of her generation, Nikolina Ivezić (born in 1970) combines painting with relief techniques as part of her personal artistic style. Even though her pieces often relate to popular culture and mass media, and also show traits of comic art style, reducing her work to a pop-art label would mean confining it into narrow bounds which she transcends by continuously developing her technique and creating notable social commentary in visual form.

This particular exhibition will showcase 46 works divided into subject-related groups of paintings. One is a portrait series of ten famous women, accompanied by their quotes on identity and life in general: Jane Austen says “quiet, but not blind”, while Virginia Woolf “cannot find peace avoiding real life”. Other two series of works, painted in a larger format, talk about the artist’s personal experiences in everyday life where the subject matter varies from euthanizing a beloved pet and having her car broken in to hanging out with friends and enjoying spending time at home.

You can see examples of the artist’s previous work here.

The exhibition opens on April 13th, 2017 at 7 PM and will remain on display until May 28th. For tickets and opening hours, visit the gallery website.
