An interesting exhibition opens at Mimara today at 7 p.m.: Damir Vrdoljak Mandeta’s Refuli comprises pieces of art made from recycled materials. The exhibition negates the statement that art is created “ex nihilo” (out of nothing) and proves that something can be created out of something else. In this case, the material used is ship waste.
Damir Vrdoljak Mandeta was born in Split in 1957 and he “has been living the sea” his entire life, which is also the main topic of his works. He was a yachtsman, travel writer and journalist before he ventured into sculptured art 20 years ago. His first exhibition opened in 2012 and he has been a favourite of the critics and the audience ever since.
