In Zagreb, of course!
Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival, the only of its kind in the region, brings special cinematic treats through the end of June and the beginning of July to all film buffs and fantastic fans in Zagreb and the region. In nine days of the Festival, fans of fantasy and related genres – science fiction, horror, thriller, mystery, experimental etc. will get to watch a number of intriguing and interesting films from both new and acknowledged authors.
With every new edition, the festival further enriches their film program, attracting audiences to the spectacular open venues in Zagreb. One of the locations is Tuškanac summer stage, which was abandoned and forgotten until the festival’s team had the privilege to reopen it. From that day this cultural location lives again, in the middle of the woods and only a walking distance from the town’s centre.
The festival is also responsible for taking the film watching experience to a new level – a part of the programme takes place in Medvedgrad fort, overlooking the entire city and each Medvedgrad film night is sold out in a matter of days. Unfortunately, the official website states that this is the last chance you’ll get to see films at Medvedgrad, so don’t miss it! Friday, July 7, you can watch the fantastic black comedy El Bar and on Saturday, July 8, you can watch a brilliant SF horror classic by John Carpenter (The Thing), followed by partying until morning.
Fantastic Film Festival Zagreb takes place June 29 – July 7 at Tuškanac Summer Stage, with warm-up screenings on June 23 (Solyaris by Andrei Tarkovsky) and June 24 (The Wailing, by Na Hong-jin).
There are several themes: Nordic Focus, Midnight Madness, Happy Birthday, Americana, Orient Express, Panorama, and this year’s In Memoriam Jonathan Demme. Some of the cult classics you’ll be able to watch include Robocop, Poltergeist, Conan the Barbarian, and many more.
