The village in Pisarovina Municipality will host a two-day event to celebrate Stork Day on September 2 and 3.
Zeleni prsten Public Institution is organising a two-day event to celebrate Stork Day in Donja Kupčina, the village with the most white storks in Zagreb County.
On Saturday, September 2, a charity bike tour called “Put rode” will be organised, starting at 10 a.m. at Trg Stjepana Radića in Pisarovina. The tour ends at Donja Kupčina Museum, where all participants will have lunch, cooked corn and a get-together in front of the Museum, and a special programme for children will also be organised.
The registration fee is HRK 20 and the money will go towards treatment of Lucas Čačković, who is learning to walk with the help of a robot, which costs HRK 7,500 per week, and 12 weeks are needed for him to learn to walk on his own.

Sunday, September 3, will be a day of culture and arts – a museum visit and a poetry anthology presentation containing haikus from a recent competition dedicated to white storks. The poems are divided into three categories: international competition in English, competition for primary school pupils in Croatian and for adults in Croatian. 776 poems from 38 countries were submitted to the competition.
At 6 p.m., visitors will be able to visit the Donja Kupčina Museum, find out how people used to live in the past and taste some traditional specialities.
All Donja Kupčina residents who have a nest for white storks will be given an acknowledgement thanking them for their participation in taking care of this protected species.
In Croatia, Stork Day is celebrated on August 24 to raise awareness of the decline in the number of white storks. There are some 1,300 pairs in Croatia and 550 build their nests near the River Sava. Sisak-Moslavina and Zagreb have the most storks, with 292 nests recorded in 2017. Most of them can be found in the towns of Vrbovec and Ivanić Grad, municipalities of Pisarovina and Klinča Sela, and villages of Donja Kupčina and Donja Zdenčina.
