The exhibition, on display at the Art Pavilion October 5, 2017 – January 14, 2018, will comprise works by famous 20th-century artists, including the works by famous French painter and sculptor Georges Braque.

The Art Pavilion in Zagreb will be hosting the exhibition The Passion of Creation: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Fondation Maeght from October 5, 2017, to January 14, 2018.

It is a project that aims to present to the public some of the best works from the collection of the Fondation Marguerite et Aimé Maeght, a globally important private foundation of modern and contemporary art, located in the small town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, near Nice (France).

“The Foundation contains a large number of works of the most significant artists of the 20th century. Visitors will be able to view works of some of the greatest names of 20th-century art history such as Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, Balthus, Pierre Alechinsky, Pol Bury, Erró, Sam Francis, Ellsworth Kelly, Barbara Hepworth, Paul Jenkins, Konrad Klapheck and many others – a total of 64 works (paintings, sculptures, lithographs and etchings, drawings and bibliographic works).

The exhibition consists of 25 authors – representatives of cubism, expressionism, abstract art and fantastic art, i.e. the representatives of different art movements of modernism of the 20th  century.

One of the most important parts of the exhibition will be the works of the famous French painter and sculptor Georges Braque, one of the key protagonists of 20th-century art. The exhibition includes 21 works by Braque – paintings, sculptures, reliefs and drawings.” (The Art Pavillion)

“Aimé and his wife were very passionate about art, so, after WWII, they opened the renowned Maeght Gallery in Paris, one of the most famous contemporary art galleries in the world,” Ms Jasminka Poklečki Stošić said at a press conference on Monday, September 25.

The gallery became famous as soon as its first exhibition was on display in 1947, dedicated to surrealism, and opened by Andre Breton, founder of Surrealism.

The exhibition will cost HRK 2 million, Ms Poklečki Stošić said, thanking the Pavilion’s partners for their financial aid – the City of Zagreb and INA.

Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić said that the exhibition is another proof that Zagreb has always been and it will always be a European capital of culture.

Tomislav Thuer of INA said that he was extremely pleased with the company’s cooperation with the Art Pavilion on such an important project and that he hoped there would be more than 42 thousand visitors, the number of visitors who attended the Giacometti exhibition, which INA was also the general sponsor of.
