The olives are gathered, and it is time this weekend to turn our attention back to the sea – squid in particular.
For this weekend sees the annual Peskafondo fishing championship, a great late season event which was introduced to the Hvar calendar back in 2011, and one which has been growing in size and interest ever since, and this year’s early media coverage has been bigger than ever before.
As is the list of competitors, with some 42 teams registered so far. Apart from many teams from all over Croatia, the list includes teams from as far away as Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro, as well as a possible first team from Italy.
Peskafondo is a lot of fun, even if you are not a fisherman, and there are plenty of events going on apart from the actual fishing, and it is nice to see Hvar Town come back to life for a weekend after the end of the season.
One attration for some will be the live concert by Thompson in Pink Champagne, an event open by accreditation only.
