On many levels, this has been the most interesting tourist season on Hvar since I started working in tourism. The things that happened, the people I met, the viewpoints they had.
Jelsa as a destination is a topic that has been discussed a LOT by the foreign community with links to the town – full-time residents, holiday home owners and the like. And many of those discussions have led me to view the destination in a different way, which will be the subject of a much longer blog next month.
But as I flew into downtown Split in just 12 minutes the other day, something occurred to me about Jelsa which I think makes it unique in the world – the only destination on the planet currently with no less than THREE UNESCO World Heritage Sites just twenty minutes away from downtown Jelsa.
With the arrival of the seaplanes, the possibilities of Jelsa tourism have increased considerably, making it an even more attractive base for the perfect Dalmatian vacation. The three sites of course (and there are only 7 in all Croatia) are the Stari Grad Plain, the old town of Trogir (seaplane flight to Resnik/Split Airport and five minute taxi) and Diocletian’s Palace in Split (12 minute flight to downtown Split and five-minute walk).
Given all the other treasures that Jelsa possesses, the instant availability of such a rich cultural choice can only add to the town’s attractiveness as a destination. Learn more about the three World Heritage Sites just 20 minutes from Stari Grad in the videos below.
