August the 31st, 2024 – Two beautiful Croatian locations have graced the widely-read and well-respected European Best Destinations list.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, two Croatian locations have found themselves ranked on the list of the respected European Best Destinations portal. Among other attributes they shower praise on, the portal describes them as picturesque and beautiful.

of the two croatian locations, gorgeous cavtat takes first place on the european best destinations list

If you’ve ever been to Croatia’s southernmost town, you’ll be fully aware of how and why it made this list. Cavtat is an absolute gem in Konavle’s crown and lies just a few kilometres from the hustle and bustle of Dubrovnik.

Boasting a beautiful beach, a beautiful old town and maintaining the feel of authentic Dalmatia even in the face of modernity and tourism makes Cavtat a firm and understandable favourite for swathes of visitors, many of whom return year after year.

It should be no surprise therefore that Cavtat took first place according to this portal. It describes this most southern of Croatian destinations, just north of the Montenegrin border, as the most exclusive destination in Europe. In describing Cavtat, the portal stated that it is located in the Konavle region, which it compared to Italy’s glorious Tuscany.

Cavtat is described as “a charming town with an old town centre that boasts numerous lovely cafes and restaurants… It has a stunning coastline surrounded by palm trees and resembles Saint Tropez”

They also pointed out that it is a place designed not for people on the hunt for clubs and other nightlife, but for those looking to indulge themselves in total relaxation surrounded by a beautiful landscape, good food and wine.

“Life in this part of the world moves slowly, which is why this place has become a desirable destination for a truly relaxed vacation,” they added.

moving much further up north, opatija gets the spotlight

Cavtat might well be the charm of the south, but Opatija is the same for the northern part of the Adriatic coast. This beautiful Kvarner town, located not far from the likes of Rijeka and the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia, Trieste in neighbouring Italy and multiple locations in neighbouring Slovenia, has always been popular. Dominated by impressive Austro-Hungarian architecture that immediately transports you back to the glory days of that fallen empire, it’s known as the First Lady of Croatian Tourism.

Anyone who has spent time in various Croatian locations and who has been to Opatija will tell you how much of a truly different atmosphere and energy this charming town boasts. It’s therefore not a shock that it took fifth place on the European Best Destinations list.

The portal points out the large number of grand hotels and places for wellness as the biggest advantage of Opatija.

In addition to fantastic massages and wellness, the portal was impressed by Opatija’s traditional promenade as well as the famous statue of the girl with the seagull, which they describe as one of the most romantic locations for a marriage proposal possible.
