June the 21st, 2025 – Sharks are an enormously important part of the ecosystem. T SHARK is a platform on which fishermen can track sharks and how many of each species there are in the Adriatic.
Sharks aren’t a particularly frequent sight in Croatian waters, but they do live here and there are significant numbers and types of them. They don’t bother swimmers, and certain species are strictly protected, such as the beautiful Blue shark. Contact with humans is exceptionally rare, with attacks almost without precedent.
These gorgeous marine residents are often the subject of plenty of photo and videography when spotted cruising along through the calm Adriatic Sea. They are incredibly important for the sea’s balance and health, which is why a new platform, T SHARK, which tracks sharks and gives a better insight into the lives of these shy creatures in the Adriatic is essential.

As Morski writes, without the presence of sharks, the health of the marine ecosystem of the Adriatic Sea would be extremely seriously compromised. In addition to the many other benefits of sharks, it is important to point out that they also prey on invasive species, such as blue crabs and lionfish, which are increasingly present in the Adriatic Sea from the Italian to the Croatian coastline.
Increasingly visible climate change is enabling the rapid spread of invasive species, and one of the best ways to combat their uncontrolled spread is precisely a balanced ratio of predators in the seas, the WWF explained.

That is why we must do all we can to try to protect cartilaginous fish, and the T SHARK platform intended primarily for fishermen will help sharks living in the Adriatic. Fishermen can enter data on accidentally caught tagged cartilaginous fish in order to monitor their movements, numbers and habits.
