Just as the island is bursting with great restaurants in summer, so it is empty of restaurants in winter, and summer visitors who come out of season are often surprised at just how quiet the island’s towns are in the winter months, particularly Hvar Town, and if it wasn’t for the efforts of Mizarola, who provide a quality year round menu on the main square, dining options would be confined to the supermarket in the island’s major town.
But there is some great news for people looking not only for great food but also entertainment, as Artichoke in Jelsa has just reopened with its winter programme and menu. Open from 19:00 Friday to Sunday, Artichoke will be providing a winter menu with menu (and prices) adjusted to the local market, including pizzas, burgers and a great barbecue.
Entertainment options will include cooking shows, stand-up comedy, live music and DJs, and two big parties are planned for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Saturdays will be more geared to hanging out and music, while Sundays will be more focused on the gourmet side of things.
