History

With its Neolithic caves and settlements dating back to 384 BC, Hvar has plenty to offer tourists wanting to investigate its colourful past.  The island’s history is a fascinating one, with various external powers shaping its progress.  Much of this will be investigated in this section, as well as features on local history, and a look at Hvar Town, which boasts a fine tourism pedigree, including the oldest organised tourism in Europe.
