007: Could James Bond be Dubrovnik’s Next Movie?

Lauren Simmonds

With Star Wars and now Robin Hood: Origins underway, could the next James Bond film be the next big hit to be filmed in Dubrovnik?

According to an article published by GameSpot on the 22nd of February 2017 which quotes the fansite MI6 as its source, the next James Bond movie, which will be the 25th in the long running and wildly popular series, could be filmed in Dubrovnik.

With suggestions that the 25th edition of the beloved 007 movie series could be filmed in Dubrovnik as early as this year despite no public knowledge of a cast or even a title, it poses many questions for diehard lovers of Bond. One of the most anxiously awaited pieces of information for Bond fans is whether or not Daniel Craig will take up the role of the British agent again, following his mildly unenthusiastic remarks about the processes involving filming ”Spectre” back in 2015. Just over a year ago, reports began to emerge in various media outlets and blogs/fansites about Dubrovnik being discussed as a shooting location for the film, MI6, a clearly dedicated site was among the very first to report on the secretive talks on the 23rd of February 2016.

Currently, Dubrovnik holds the titles of Kings Landing (Game of Thrones), Naboo (Star Wars) and in the very near future, Nottingham (Robin Hood: Origins), with the newest Robin Hood blockbuster expected to be the city’s biggest and most expensive production to date, with educated estimates regarding marketing and promotion repeatedly bringing up the incomprehensible figure of $100 million.

Could Bond be next on the list?
