The traditional Dubrovnik Carnival is set to round off the Dubrovnik Winter Festival’s 2017 schedule this February.
Our ancestors also had fun, and so should we! (i nasi su stari ludovali, pa mozemo i mi!) is a phrase that characterises this very special carnival, a time in which jokes, meriment, joy, satire and laughter engulf the city and its people.
The much loved carnival, which begins on the 24th of February and ends on the 28th, has been organised for the 18th time by the Dubrovnik Tourist Board and the City of Dubrovnik. The four day event is primarily aimed at children, but more and more adults are taking part each year and are enjoying it just as much (if not more) as their shorter, younger counterparts.
Opening on Friday the 24th of February with an exhibition of carnival masks and costumes and photos from the past, the carnival will follow on with the traditional parade of children from kindergartens in Dubrovnik on Stradun, along with with their presentation at the Revelin fortress before moving on to Lazareti for the conclusion of the first day. The second day will involve pre-school children and a party in Revelin, the third day will be a ”masked school day” held in Revelin and Ultimi (the end of the carnival) will wrap up 2017’s Dubrovnik Carnival with light-hearted entertainment and a concert.
