A great success for Croatian olive oil producers: 22 olive oils from Istria and Dalmatia received Gold and Silver medals at The New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC), reports Glas Istre on May 3rd 2017.
The fourth edition of NYIOOC took place from April 23rd to April 27th and had the panel of judges assessing 800 olive oil samples from 26 countries. Among 22 Croatian winners, 18 brands are produced in Istria and 4 in Dalmatia, two of them winning outstanding Best in Class Awards.
The Vergal Frantoio olive oil produced by Laguna Novigrad was pronounced Best in Class of North Hemipshere Monovarietal Delicate. Vergal is the Istrian brand known for its olive oils harvested from Istarska bjelica, Frantoio and Leccino varieties.
“Our long-term committed work results in oustanding quality that is recognised on the world market. Vergal Frantoio got the highest score by the top-grade olive oil connoisseurs, whose prestigious award represents an incentive for the future development of our remarkable brand”, said Zrinka Bokulić, CEO of Laguna Novigrad, the company which owns Aminess Hotels and Campsites in Novigrad.
The other Best in Class went to M’Olive Oil produced by OPG Makek in Rovinj, in the category of Best Northern Hemisphere Delicate. M’Olive Oil is a field blend containing Buža, Oblica, Istarska bjelica, Leccino, Pichioline, Carbonazza, Cimpressino, Pendolino, Leccio Del Corno and Frantoio olive varieties.
