The association ‘Portal of Kindness – Let’s Feed Croatia’ (Portal Dobrote – Nahranimo Hrvatsku) carried out a commendable humanitarian action last year. They devised an initiative titled ‘Spare a jacket’, appealing to all citizens who were willing to donate a couple of items of winter clothing to bring them to multiple spots in town, so the less fortunate could pick up what they need and keep warm during those coldest days of the year.

The action was more than successful, launching a chain of similar projects in all parts of the country. So, seeing that the temperatures are soon to drop below zero, they revived the project, publishing a post on their Facebook page to inform the public they can once again participate in this heartwarming initiative.

‘Spare a jacket’ will thus take place in Zagreb in the period from December 5 to 12, at three locations in the city:

1) Qanah Charity Shop, Rudeška 160a (Vrbani), December 5-9, every day from 12 to 17

2) Zagreb Archdiocese Caritas, Av. Dubrava 220 (Dubrava), December 5-8, every day from 8 to 14

3) Zagreb Archdiocese Caritas, Crnojezerska 20 (Gajnice), December 5-8, every day from 8 to 14

Do you have a jacket to spare? Leave it here. Do you need a jacket? Take one!

All of you who have an extra coat, winter jackets, scarves, gloves, boots or any similar items of clothing can help out a fellow citizen in need, be it homeless people or those in difficult financial situations who might be spending this winter in a home with no heating.

Let’s not stop at that, though: anyone can join in by organising such an action in their own neighbourhood or in other Croatian cities. It doesn’t take much: a clothing rack, a person or two to manage donations, and some social media promotion will suffice. After all, even though compassion should be shown all year round, if there’s a season of giving back to the community, it’s Christmas. Get inspired, get organised, and offer a helping hand!
