Crisis, What Crisis? 200,000 Croatians to Go Skiing This Winter

Total Croatia News

Money may be hard to come by for the average Croatian family with the economic skiing, but there is always an exception for skiing…

A week before the opening of the skiing season at resorts throughout Europe, Croatian travel agencies say they have recorded an increase by between 10 and 30 percent in sales of ski holiday packages in comparison with the last season. As usuall, the most popular timeslots are those between 2 and 16 January 2016, due to school holidays in Croatia and somewhat more affordable prices, reports Poslovni.hr on November 21, 2015.

Croatian travel agencies believe that the current trends in sales will continue until the end of the upcoming skiing and winter season. In the last few days they have received additional good news, since the latest weather forecasts show that we can expect temperatures to drop significantly and possibly bring the first major snow of the season.

Kompas Travel Agency from Zagreb has recorded about 10 percent better sales of ski travel packages than last year. In addition to traditional destinations, this year brings many new ones, including skiing camps for children in France, Austria and Slovenia. The prices this year are similar to last year’s, so apartments for several people can be found for between 2,000 to 2,500 kuna for seven days, with some destinations including even day ski passes in the price. Most travel packages have been sold to skiing fans from Zagreb, Rijeka and Dalmatia. Kompas Travel Agency estimates that this season about 200,000 people from Croatia will take part in either organized or individual skiing trips, and that the season will last until 1 May.

In the last two weeks, Ban Tours Travel Agency has seen considerable growth in sales of ski packages, with Kronplatz in Italy, Bad Kleinkirchheim and Nassfeld in Austria, and Rogla and Kranjska Gora in Slovenia being the most popular destinations. Most customers will pay for their skiing packages in several instalments, and it is expected that this year the greatest number of packages will be sold as a “last-minute” offer.

Atlas Travel Agency also expects an increase in sales of up to 30 percent. The prices are mostly at the level similar to last winter.
