ZAGREB, January 18, 2018 – Croatian Environmental Protection and Energy Minister Tomislav Ćorić discussed the waste pollution of the Adriatic Sea at a meeting of the coordinating committee of Croatian and Italian ministers in Rome on Thursday, Ćorić’s ministry said in a press release.

Croatia has proposed the continuation of activities to have the Adriatic declared an especially sensitive sea area, and Italy supports this initiative, Ćorić said.

“Given the growing cross-border problem of sea waste in the Adriatic and the states’ international commitments, we have invited Italy to consider the possibility of developing programmes for joint expert and technical assistance to other Adriatic countries to deal with pollution of the sea with sources from land and ships,” he added.

Croatia and Italy are strongly pushing for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris climate accord, Ćorić said after talks with Italian Environment Minister Gian Luca Galletti.
