A new low, even for thieves.

Ivan Kaleb, a member of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) station in Dubrovnik, posted a Facebook message to the thief who stole a trailer jack wheel from an HGSS trailer while the team was searching for a missing young man on the Visovac lake, reports tportal.hr on April 2, 2018.

“To the ‘unknown hero’ who stole a jack from our trailer – I would like to tell you that you should be proud of your accomplishment. While we were busy searching for a missing person, the ‘hero’ was very successful in his attempt to steal our jack wheel,” wrote Kaleb on Facebook.

The HGSS station in Dubrovnik is helping with the search for a 16-year-old man who disappeared eight days ago after his boat capsized near the islet of Visovac on the Krka river.

“’Hero’ – just to draw your attention to the fact that we are not professionals with salaries of 10,000 kuna and this is not our job. We are volunteers who have left our families, used our annual vacation time at work and came here to help somebody. For free. And you took our jack wheel. For free,” wrote Kaleb, adding that he hoped the thief would never need their help.

“And, finally, we hope that you will never need our help, but if that happens, you will still get it. For free. Because you are used to getting things from us for free. To you and your family, we wish you happy Easter – members of the HGSS station in Dubrovnik.”

The news about the theft first appeared on Friday on the HGSS Šibenik station’s Facebook page. “Please, return us the jack because you never know when you could need our services,” wrote the HGSS.

As for the case of the missing person, the police reported that the search was continuing. “An intensive search is continuing, performed by members of the Šibenik Police, Criminal Police and Maritime Police, police divers from Split, other divers and members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Dubravica, employees of the Krka National Park and army members,” said spokeswoman of the Šibenik-Knin Police Administration Marica Kosor.

The boat with four young men capsized last week when one of them stood up, which disturbed the balance. All four men ended up in the water. Given the shock of the event and the fact that the missing man was not a skilled swimmer, he remained in the water near the capsized boat while the remaining three men went to search for assistance. After they returned to the boat, the fourth man was not found there, and the search began.
