A tasteful event at the German ambassador’s residence.
It is well known that Germans are the most numerous foreign tourists visiting Croatia, but it is less known that Germany, with 56.1 million arrivals, has been for the eighth consecutive year the second most popular destination for European tourists, behind Spain. Which means – it is more popular even than France!
In 2017, a lot of Croats visited Germany. Statistics show that they made 1,201,000 trips, which was 12% more than the year before. Most Croats visiting Germany came from Zagreb (46%) and the coastal regions (30%). The reasons for their travels were mostly leisure and business.
In order to be able to truly enjoy their stay in Germany, visitors should get to know its excellent wine and dine offer, with over 300 Michelin-starred restaurants, numerous street festivals, over sixty gastronomic clubs, 13 wine regions, and twenty-five years of experience with the slow food concept, whose anniversary is celebrated this year. Two of the ten main reasons why tourists visit Germany are the atmosphere in local restaurants and cafes and the rich seasonal cuisine.
To celebrate and present this year’s German promotional campaign “Culinary Germany”, the regional office of the German National Tourist Board and German Ambassador Thomas Eberhard Schultze organised the “Evening of German Gastronomy” event at the ambassador’s residence. The campaign aims to present the diversity of individual German region. In addition to an emphasis on the traditions of the German countryside, the contemporary German cuisine in major urban centres is presented as well.
Guests at the ambassador’s residence were able to enjoy top quality delicacies prepared by chef Anes Korjenić from the Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin restaurant in Stuttgart, who was assisted by Croatian chef Kristijan Misirača, as well as various German wines from the private wine cellar of Ambassador Schultze.
The culinary event was attended by numerous prominent guests, while the welcome speeches were given by Ambassador Schultze and Tijana Đuričić, the regional manager of the German National Tourist Board.
