Dalmatia was hit with the bitter taste of winter (and bura) on Tuesday as temperatures dropped around the region.
If you were in Dalmatia on Tuesday, chances are you dusted off the cobwebs from your winter coats and contemplated whether going outside into the blustery bura wind was really worth the effort. And for those of us that made it out, we probably wish we hadn’t.
Tuesday brought a continuation of mostly cloudy weather to Dalmatia. Most of the rain fell south of Makarska and on the islands as the center of the cyclone moved to the southern Adriatic, intensively cooling the region, reports Dalmacija Danas on November 27, 2018.
Not even today could go without rainfall, which saw the areas of Metković and Vrgorac welcome over 30 new liters of rain per square meter. Hvar, Korčula, Pelješac, and the Dubrovnik region saw 10 to 20.
The day was marked by a chilled bura wind that grew steadily in the evening – and some places along the coast even reached a ripping 100 km/h!
Although the temperatures on Tuesday were far from ‘real’ winter weather, they did significantly bring down the air temperature. Temperatures dropped most in the mountains, with the Dinara measuring -5 ° C. Sv. Jure on Biokovo fell to -3 ° C. By 3 pm, there were around 10 centimeters of snow, and the snow fell to about 1300 meters above sea level.

Late in the afternoon, Mosor welcomed its first snow of the season, but only on the highest parts of the mountain. At the Star Village Mosor, the temperature dropped to 3.7 ° C around 5 pm – and if the temperatures continue to drop at this rate, the Mosor villages of Dubrava and Gornje Sitno could also see snowfall.
The weather will gradually stabilize on Wednesday, though the bura will strengthen and bring temperatures down even further.
